Rebu Geral is the culmination of Eduardo Araújo and his wife Silvinha Araújo's hardened, funk-infused "post-Jovem Guarda" period in the mid-1970s. The innocent rock'n'roll energy of Jovem Guarda had long passed; as the country went through a dark period under military dictatorship, a slicker, more provocative, more urban sound emerged in music. This album stands right in the middle of that transformation.
Eduardo's gritty funk guitar, Silvinha's vocals—both sweet as sugar and sharp—combined with the warm analog atmosphere of Rio de Janeiro studios of the era, create an almost post-Tropicália "psychological funk" aesthetic. Rebu Geral reflects one of the lesser-known but most daring periods of Brazilian music. It's a very "feel-good" work, highly recommended:
