Krautrock's laboratory, the zero point of German electronic music… Musik von Harmonia is the first fruit of that short but fascinating period when Hans-Joachim Roedelius & Dieter Moebius from Cluster and Michael Rother from Neu! came together and bent time. The album is a calm but deeply effective experiment where motorik rhythm and ambient, minimalism and pastoral beauty, laboratory seriousness and childlike curiosity are written on the same surface.
The album's magic comes from the fact that the sounds are never in a hurry. The slowly unfolding mechanical march of "Watussi," the cosmic mists of "Sehr Kosmisch" that live up to its name, the sun-like pulsating melodic loops of "Sonnenschein"... In each track, Rother's clean, flowing guitar blends into Cluster's analog machines, creating a world that is both as regular as a machine and as fragile as a human breath. This music relies as much on texture as it does on melody, and as much on time as it does on rhythm.
It's no coincidence that Brian Eno came to Harmonia's door years later, saying, "You were one of the most important bands of the 1970s." Musik von Harmonia still sounds today like an unfinished map of modern electronic music: silent, vast, clean, and unexpectedly emotional.
